Delicious Vegetarian Burger Recipe
By Tina • Oct 14th, 2009 • Category: Burger RecipesI know vegetarian and burger don’t really belong together, but here it actually works. This recipe mixes beans and vegetables to create a patty that tastes awfully good.
It’s also a great way to sneak in some fiber for your kids (and spouse) who don’t ea their vegetables very well.
Ingredients:
1 (16 ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed
1/2 green bell pepper chopped into 2 inch pieces
1/2 onion, chunked
3 cloves garlic, peeled
1 egg
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon cumin
1 teaspoon Thai chili sauce or hot sauce
1/2 cup bread crumbs
Directions:
- In a medium bowl, mash black beans with a fork until thick and pasty.
- Finely chop bell pepper, onion, and garlic and stir into the bean mixture.
- In a small bowl, stir together egg, chili powder, cumin, and chili sauce.
- Combine the two bowls and mix in bread crumbs until the mixture is sticky and holds together.
- Make in to four patties.
Cook:
- If grilling, place patties on greased foil cook for 8 minutes per side.
- If baking, place on a greased baking sheet and flip after 10 minutes.
The vegetarian bean burger is a tasty alternative to the boring old burger. This version is healthier, too! Enjoy with a wheat bun, some lettuce and tomato slices and you have a great burger!
