Portobello Mushroom Burgers

By • Dec 10th, 2007 • Category: Burger Recipes

These Portobello mushroom burgers are for hardcore mushroom fans only, with a grilled Portobello mushroom right on top of the beef patty.

Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne
  • 4 portobello mushrooms, stems removed
  • 4 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 4 focaccia rolls / Italian rolls
  • garlic mayo for topping

  • To make the patties, combine the beef with the chopped onion, cumin, and cayenne and mix well. If you have time, allow the mixture to rest for 1-3 hours in the refrigerator. Shape the beef mixture into 4 patties and set aside.
  • Coat the portobello mushrooms with a mixture of the olive oil and lemon juice. Grill the beef patties and mushrooms over a medium-high heat for 4 minutes each side for the patties and 6-8 minutes for the mushrooms. To prevent the mushrooms from drying out, brush them with the olive oil and lemon juice mixture every 2 minutes.
  • Toast the rolls before serving and spread a layer of garlic mayo in between each patty and mushroom.

Suggested burger topping: try caramelized onions or garlic butter. More burger toppings.
