Michael Symon Repeats at 2011 Burger Bash

Apparently, my invite to the SoBe Burger Bash was lost in the mail- AGAIN- leaving me to troll the Internet to find out what happened at the star-studded meat orgy in Miami Beach last week. Our brother-in-arms Burger Beast was there, however, and snapped some great pics that we’re honored to share with you.

Once again, Rachael Ray hosted the shindig, where 26 burgermeisters from across the country fought for top honors. Many of the usual suspects were there, including Masaharu Morimoto, Spike Mendelsohn (dressed as The Hamburglar), and Bobby FlayPhotos from Beach Wine & Food Festival

Lots of wacky toppings and crazy combinations were on the menu: an elk burger topped with foie gras, arugula, and huckleberry jam; Wagyu beef crowned with a fried egg; and the “O” Burger from Miami’s Town Kitchen & Bar:

That’s a triple-grind beef burger “laced with applewood-smoked bacon, topped with a cipollini-onion marmalade, crisp shallots, aged white cheddar cheese, and homemade apple butter on a brioche bun.” And it was served alongside their adult version of the classic brown cow- milk stout beer mixed with vanilla bean ice cream. Looking for something more mainstream and classic? Doesn’t get much better than NYC’s Shake Shack Burger:

But when the tasting was over, the People’s Award went to a familiar face.

Michael Symon of Iron Chef America fame racked up his second straight win, this year with a creation dubbed the Yo! Burger:

Symon went meat-on-meat once again (last year’s winner featured pastrami) by topping his burger with fried salami, provolone, pickled onion, and shasha sauce (described as “a hot mustard sauce with Hungarian peppers”).

Were you left off the Burger Bash guest list, too? Not to worry; the Yo! is one of the 15 burgs on the everyday menu at Symon’s B Spot in Cleveland.
