Ground turkey meat is very lean and healthy, combined with bleu cheese, it’s a tasty meal.

This burger recipe is easy to make and uses ingredients commonly found in the pantry. bleu cheese

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup crumbled bleu cheese
  • 4 slices American Cheese

Directions:

  • Preheat grill for high heat.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together the ground turkey, mushrooms, onion, and soy sauce. Season with kosher salt and pepper.
  • Form into 4 burger patties.
  • Lightly oil the grill grate. Place patties on the prepared grill, and cook for 10 minutes per side, or until well done.
  • Top with bleu & American cheese during the last few minutes.

Moist and delicious, yet not full of the fat. A superb way to eat your dinner and enjoy it too!

Fresh salmon works best, but you can also try frozen and thawed salmon fillets.

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 pounds king salmon fillet, skinned and de-boned
  • 1 cup cubed, dry bread
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon rosemary
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Method:

  • Prepare the salmon by cutting into strips, making sure all bones are removed,  and chopping the fish until well minced.
  • In a large bowl, mix the minced salmon with bread, onion, mustard, horseradish, and eggs. Season with rosemary, salt, and pepper.
  • Place in refrigerator for 30 minutes to an hour.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat.
  • Form the salmon mixture into 8 burger patties. Lightly coat each patty with olive oil.
  • Place salmon patties on the grill, and cook 4 or 5 minutes on each side.

The salmon patty burger gives a little variety from the summer beef version. Both are great in the own right, but appreciated separately too!

Ingredients:

1 pound ground turkey
1 (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
2 tablespoons steak sauce
4 hamburger buns

Directions:

  • In a bowl, mix the turkey, soup mix and steak sauce. Combine until well blended.
  • Shape in to 4 – 5 patties and place on a greased baking sheet in the oven.

Cook:

  •  Cook for 8 – 10 minutes on each side. If grilling, cook 4 – 6 minutes on each side.
  • Serve on a bun with your favorite condiments.

The onion soup and steak mix makes you think your eating an awesome steak burger, but you’re not. It’s an awesome turkey burger and so easy to make!

You see, I’ve always known I needed to eat healthier but just couldn’t bring myself to give my cheeseburger up. It didn’t help that this recession happened, and freelance jobs became harder to come by. As the market snuffed one well-paying gig after the next, I found myself dicing my grocery bill by eating cheap and anything fastfood.

And so it was that this unfortunate situation came about – for every 80 points that the Dow drops, I gain a point in cholesterol count. Fortunately, I discovered how to make this healthful cheeseburger (not a myth, I swear), and I’m sharing it with you just in case you find yourself needing to do a gut-check.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of white turkey meat (ground)
  • 1 tablespoon of Spike seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup of bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup of scallions
  • 1/2 cup of soy sauce
  • 4 slices of cheese (either low-fat or non-fat)
  • 1/2 cup of light mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons of ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon of relish

Method:

  • Mix the following in a large bowl: turkey meat, Worcestershire sauce, bread crumbs, scallions, and spike seasoning.
  • Form 4 patties out of the mixture.
  • Grease a large skillet and heat until hot.
  • Add patties and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Flip the patties over before adding soy sauce.
  • Cover the pan. Let it simmer until the patties are cooked throughout.
  • Remove the lid. Then, place a slice of cheese on each patty, and allow it to melt.
  • Combine the mayo with the relish and the ketchup.
  • Place them, and your patties, on oven-steamed buns. Serve with the condiment of your choice.

See? It’s easy, healthy, cheeesy, and yum.

  • Shape the meat into 4 patties with your hands and pre-heat the grill. For extra cajun flavor you can coat the patties with come cajun seasoning.
  • Grill each burger for 4-5 minutes on each side or until the meat is fully cooked. You should lightly coat the patties with cooking spray to prevent them from sticking. You can also cook these in a skillet.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 frozen 9-inch deep dish pie shell, thawed
  • 1/2 cup diced sweet onions
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup low fat cottage cheese
  • 1 cup low fat cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Method:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F and have a 9 inch pie plate ready.
  • Mix the diced onion into the ground beef then brown the mixture in a large pan/skillet.
  • While cooking add the flour and Worcestershire sauce, stirring until evenly coated. Make sure the meat is fully cooked, his should take about 10 minutes. Drain off any excess fat after cooking.
  • In separate bowl, fold the low fat cottage cheese into the 2 beaten eggs.
  • This pie is made using layers of cheddar cheese, ground beef mixture and the cottage cheese mixture. Sprinkle 1/3 of the cheddar cheese into the pie crust, followed by 1/2 of meat mixture, then 1/2 of the cottage cheese mixture. Repeat this with another 1/3 of cheddar cheese, the remaining meat and then the rest of the cottage cheese mixture. The final layer is the last 1/3 of the cheddar.
  • Bake at 375°F for 30 minutes or until crust is golden brown and filling is cooked. Cut into wedges and tuck in.

Serving Suggestion: with your favorite tossed salad.

  • Allow the chicken mixture to rest for 2 hours in the refrigerator, this will give the flavors time to infuse the meat.
  • Shape the mixture into 4 patties and fry or grill the patties for around 4-5 minutes on each side or until they are cooked through.
  • Try serving these with a sweet relish or a slice of pineapple.
