Burgers, Cheeseburgers and stuff… Yes a website about Burgers.

Free Food in 12 Days of Whataburger Promotion

“… the children were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of cheeseburgers danced in their heads…”

For residents in 10 states across the South and Southwest, it just got a little easier (and a lot cheaper) to treat yourself to a holiday hamburger.  The San Antonio-based chain Whataburger has launched a new promotion called “12 Days of Whataburger” that lets you stuff your face for free while you figure out how to stuff your stocking.

It doesn’t even matter if you’ve been naughty or nice.  Anyone with an ISP can sign up to receive an e-mail every other day until Christmas Eve.  Each e-mail will contain a coupon for free grub under the orange-and-white-striped roof nearest you.

But for cheeseburger fans, this is the Christmas Promo That Almost Wasn’t.  It seems that the company’s Burgermeisters first kicked around the idea of sending out free-food e-mails back in 2007.  They went so far as to have the coupons themselves generated, ready to be sent out across cyberspace.  Here is one of them:

And then somebody leaked the coupons online without authorization… and without the chain’s 700+ restaurants being ready for the avalanche that would surely ensue.  So the execs grinchishly pulled the promo and announced that the coupons would not be honored.

But the campaign has been resurrected for 2009, and valid coupons are going out now to those who sign up.  It’s a different item with each e-mail, so you could rack up not only a freebie cheebie, but also gratis milkshakes, fries, breakfast sammies, fried pies, or something else off the menu.  I don’t know about you, but “ten lords a-leaping” never appealed to me in the least.  “Two tasty taquitos,” on the other hand, absolutely jingles my bells.

Free cheeseburgers.  It really is the most wonderful time of the year.
