Win a Jamaican Vacation from Cheeseburger in Paradise

By • Dec 29th, 2009 • Category: Burger Blog

Need a break from the winter blues?  Have the holidays left you feeling a little grinchy?  The Cheeseburger in Paradise chain thinks that a change in your latitude might just bring about a change in your attitude.  They’re sending one lucky chowhound to Jamaica for a 5-day/4-night island getaway.  All you have to do?  Scrunch up your face and say “cheeseburger.”

There are still a few days to get in on Cheeseburger in Paradise’s “Disgruntled Elf Photo Contest.”  Here’s how it works.  Sometime before January 3, upload a photo of your best “disgruntled” face to the official CiP website, along with a 100-word description of how Cheeseburger in Paradise “ungruntles” you.  Judges will pick the Top 10 photos, and then open it up to the public for a vote.  Here’s a brief glimpse at some of your competition:

The Cheeseburger in Paradise chain is owned by the Paradise Restaurant Group, LLC under a licensing agreement with singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett.  According to the legend, Buffett’s iconic song “Cheeseburger in Paradise” was inspired by a nameless marina bar in Road Town, Tortola (in the British Virgin Islands) during a Caribbean sailing excursion.  The restaurants named after the song now operate across 17 states… in decidedly untropical locales like Secaucus, New Jersey; Omaha, Nebraska; and Muncie, Indiana.

I grew up in northern Indiana and can assure you that there is no amount of kitschy tiki-hut décor that will have you confusing Muncie for a tropical island oasis.  But a good burger and a strong margarita can certainly help chase away the chill.  The photo contest is named for the chain’s Disgruntled Elf Margarita: a blend of Cabo Wabo tequila, Midori Melon liqueur, kiwi, and lime, orange, and lemon juices.

On the burger menu, you’ll find mainstays like a Bacon Cheddar Burger, a Mushroom Swiss variety, a BBQ Cheddar, a Mini-Cheeseburger plate, and a Blue Cheese Blast Burger.  More exotic fare includes a Burger of the Day, Killer Crab Burgers, and a Baja Burger, which features sour cream, shredded lettuce, jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, and salsa.  I was also intrigued by the idea of their Pressed Burger: topped with salsa ketchup, Velveeta cheese, pickles, and mayo, then “pressed until golden brown.”  Then, of course, there’s the Cheeseburger in Paradise Burger, served up just like it’s described in the song.  (Not to be confused with the Cheeseburger in Paradise also served at Jimmy Buffett’s own Margaritaville Cafes.)

So find a Cheeseburger in Paradise, belly up to the bar, wolf down the burger of your choosing, and then take a picture of your best disgruntled face.  It could land you on the beaches of Jamaica, mon.
